Top Ryde City Opening - Too Many Supermarkets?
When Top Ryde shops closed, we had to start using other supermarkets and shopping centres (although I rarely used Top Ryde for groceries as it was too hard to park there). Luckily we are very well serviced for local supermarkets with shopping centres positioned within 4km North, South, East and West of Top Ryde.So now with Top Ryde City opening, we get Woolworths opening this week and within the next year both Franklins and Aldi will also be open there. So that gives us at least 11 supermarkets within an easy 5 min drive from Top Ryde. That is a bit ridiculous to say the least.Plus there is Myer and Big W opening at Top Ryde when we have Target opening at Rhodes and Myer, Big W and Target already at Macquarie. Not to mention the Cinema at Top Ryde when there is already one at Rhodes and one at Macquarie.Do we really need all these shops? Just because this huge shopping centre is opening this week, does it mean that we are going to be spending more money there? Or is it just redistributing the money that we have been spending at the other shopping centres nearby.I really don't want to see Top Ryde City become something similar to the dead zone it has been for the 5 or so years before it shut down. I hope it does work, but I think there is just too many shops in this small area.

If you feel that the big supermarkets have a monopoly in the area please visit us - we are a new independently owned full service supermarket with great parking and in close proximity to the railway station in West Ryde. We have great fresh produce, an itlian inspired deli, instore bakery and coffee to go. We feel there is always space for competitors particularly smaller independents who have the needs of the community at heart. We are Foodworks West Ryde, 927 Victoria Road, West Ryde.
